Disciples of God
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town
Over the last thirteen months, I have traveled to Clarkston, Washington more than 25 times. Writers have many ways of focusing and the Cowsbell’s God. Above All website has taken me through much focusing and refocusing. Honestly, when I started working on this site almost two years ago, the intent was much different and the current site is the seventh to occupy the cowsbell.com domain address! The content has changed dramatically from my first which I published in the Fall of 2025 but I am much more satisfied with this ‘final’ version than some of the earlier efforts. Seems as though several of those first six were more about what I know or thought I knew than was worthwhile to me or God.
Earlier in March, 2026 on the return leg of an overnighter to Clarkston, a passing car just north of Worley, Idaho caught my attention. High and center on the rear window was a sticker I had seen before but never thought about. I come from Montana were vanity license plates with cryptic anagrams and bumper stickers abound. As the passing car grew smaller in the distance, I thought of the sticker “HE>i” and worked through all the possibilities of meaning before I had that old man “Aha” moment. The car was long gone before I mentioned the sticker to my wife who went right to the internet to see if I was right in my interpretation.
I appreciate creativity and especially in ways to honor Jesus. While I will not be using their logo, I love the sentiment. These words were first used by John the Baptist talking to his followers about Jesus. John made it clear that John was not the coming Messiah, was only a messenger pointing to the true Messiah and then confirmed to his disciples that Jesus was the Coming One, the Messiah that was promised and was now being fulfilled right before their eyes.
He must be Greater than I. Jesus Himself confirmed that John was significant in the purposes of God but clarified that as great as John was,
‘One who is in the kingdom of heaven’ even as the least, the most humble, is greater than ‘the greatest arising among men.’ There is a divine perspective that places ‘in God’ higher than ‘esteemed of men.’
While we aren’t in position to be compared to John or the disciples, we do have the privilege of having the HE>i in us, abiding in us and us becoming one with Him. The other John, the Apostle John, wrote to one of the churches dear to him to assure them that,
He who is Greater than I is also Greater than any who are rooted in the world. HE>i also abides within all who welcome Him and agree with His relationship with them. Be encouraged that it is a very good thing that He is Greater than I and that I know it.
Oh, and if you are interested, HE>i is at https://hegreaterthani.com
