What is
Truth

Cowsbell’s God. Above All” is about ultimate, eternal Truth, the validation of who God is, the relevancy of God and how that applies across a broad spectrum of human experience. But. Because truth has become relative and relational and situational in modern society, let us first define the context of Truth in our consideration.

If I told you the computer in the accompanying image was complete, that would be true. But that would be an incomplete truth for it a a complete computer yet wholly unfunctional for it is not yet assembled. Truth statement are often out-of-context and therefore can be considered dis-information.

First, Truth is Contextual, not simply information for information or what is now termed “data” has no context beyond a defined situation, circumstance or hypothesis. In the accompanying picture, the computer is complete but it is non-functioning without assembly. “Gray” is truthfully a color but which color? Context would give definition relative to other colors and could be defined by tints, shades, percentages. “Binary” indicates a definition of one of two states as in coding “0” or “1”, or identity as “male” or “female” but without context it is only a word defined as being of one of two states.

Second, Truth must be Universal, not subject to perception or interpretation. While the view of the land we lived on began as what we could see and then expanded to what we could encompass by walking and that this gave it the appearance of limited, flat with hills, valleys, waters, Flat was sensory perception, our interpretation of experience albeit limited. Truth was incomplete. Even when we knew the land we lived on was Earth instead of ‘Here’ we did not perceive Earth as a globe, part of a solar system, part of a galaxy, part of the universe. ‘Facts’ about Earth were not true as they were incomplete, not universal. Likewise, in molecular science the atom is not the smallest component of an element even though less than two hundred years ago we ‘knew’ atom was smallest. Then the atom was ‘split’ and its components identified. Now we have quantum physics which purport to go way beyond small.

Third, Truth must be Consistent. In science we define truth by what goes beyond hypothesis or theory and is provable to consistently fulfill all conditions of the premise. In the past centuries Perpetual Motion Machines have been created and were predecessors to Cold Fusion contraptions of the late 20th Century. Each effort promoted the reality of a device or experiment that produced more output than input. While in certain conditions they appeared to be functional, it was impossible to produce the theoretical output when ALL conditions of the premise were enforced. Almost is not quite Truth.

Fourth, Truth is Absolute. True truth does not give way to paradox. The semantics of philosophers has created the state in which truth cannot be defined because words and grammar are as much connotative as denotative and would only be ‘true’ in the confines of the language and usage of the writer. Truth actually is absolute in the context of the one making the Statement of Truth knowing all elements which are included in the Statement. Most media influencers do not have the scope of comprehensive knowledge to support their statements of opinion and yet present as truth what is only opinion.

In the accompanying blogs, we will use this standard for Truth and look at the various uses of what presents itself as Truth especially as it interprets God. Join us for the challenge.
