Just how rational are we? Do we always use wisdom in our life decisions, always choose the way that is the Lᴏʀᴅ’s? Or do we get creative and make our own way.
King Amaziah had just defeated the army of the nation of Edom by following the specific instructions of the Lᴏʀᴅ through a prophet. With victory accomplished, the enemy defeated, Amaziah took the spoils of war.
Really? Does that seem wise to anyone? You have victory over an enemy and then you decide to make their gods your own! God certainly saw the absurdity:
Amaziah’s response was even less wise for he had the prophet silenced and proceeded to set his own course farther away from the Lᴏʀᴅ by not only serving other gods, but seeking an alliance with the ungodly and perpetuating his closed ears to the words of the Lᴏʀᴅ. It did not end well for Amaziah,
Sadly, not all of us respond to the ‘word of the Lᴏʀᴅ,’ and not all ends well. Amaziah was steadfast in ways not compatible with God. Thankfully, we have the warning of his errors so we can choose rightly. We are not doomed to have to answer that “Tell me why?” question. We can choose to respond in God’s wisdom.
