Don’t be misled by ‘Day Star, son of Dawn’—this is a created being, an angel, desiring to make himself god, challenging the true Creator God.
Isaiah records God’s account of Satan’s rebellion against God Himself where the created seeks to make himself equal to the Creator. Angels are not God nor gods but only created beings created by the Lᴏʀᴅ and given limits and possibilities. The indication is that this angelic being used his will to decide to become equal to or higher than God. Freedom to choose is a trait we humans and angels were given by God when He created us. We were created good until we chose to challenge God’s supremacy.
‘I will ascend’ ‘set my throne’ ‘sit in the place of God’ ‘make myself like the Most High’ are all expressions of rebellion, seeking for oneself what is only God’s. The created does not have the capacity to become God no matter how highly he thinks of himself. In the case of this rebellious pretender, Jesus later tells us that Jesus saw him cast down and that one-third of the angels followed Satan in his presumption to become ascended ones. ‘But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.’ 1
Think for yourself about the possibilities of desiring to be more than created in the image of God, of setting your heart on being equal or even higher than the One who created you. Then think again. Remember the outcome. God’s way is the better way. Forever.
