Rested

Genesis 2:2-3

“On the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”

Was God tired? Why rest?

So God paused, ceased working, took a break. We know from later parts of the autobiography that six days wasn’t all the work God ever did so the rest wasn’t permanent.

Have you ever completed a project and took the time to stop and consider the completion? Is it not possible that God was setting an example for us? That even though we were tasked with being productive, that God’s example was for us to be satisfied with what we had accomplished already? Surprisingly, the longest passage in the Bible about following God in ‘rest’ is in Hebrews 4:1-13 and yes, that is New Testament!

In our generation, has being continually producing supplanted God’s intention that we weekly ‘rest’ in the completion not only of what we do but also in consideration of the completeness of His accomplishments on our behalf? Something to think about.
