“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lᴏʀᴅ: …”
Are you ‘smarter than a sixth grader’ or does God’s challenge to Job intrigue you?
“Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?” 1
The Isaiah ‘come let us reason together’ is not an invitation to debate the Lᴏʀᴅ, to carry on a meaningful discourse to show God the error of His ways but rather the up-front acknowledgment that the questions following are unanswerable by man. No, in your ability, you cannot make your sins un-sinned. It is unreasonable, impossible, you have no resource great enough to change sin into not-sin. Only the One asking the question is able to resolve the impossibility.
‘If you are willing’ and ‘if you are obedient’ the Lᴏʀᴅ has the ability to accomplish the unreasonable, to make your sins un-sin, to take the scarlet and make it white, to change the nature of man from sinful to righteous. God is willing to change us into His image but if we ‘refuse and rebel’ we are left in our own devices, in the despair of our futility.
Lᴏʀᴅ, may we submit to Your reasoning on our behalf. You make us cleansed. Thank You, Lᴏʀᴅ.
