Open His Eyes

2 Kings 6:16-17

Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lᴏʀᴅ, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lᴏʀᴅ opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Some of us have had those servant moments when God opens our eyes to see His reality, the participation of the Lᴏʀᴅ beyond the apparent. Yes, it is humbling to see just how much of God’s reality we do not comprehend because of distraction.

Context: the king of Syria has invaded Israel. The Lᴏʀᴅ had revealed details of the Syrian presence to the king of Israel through Elisha the prophet; the Syrian sent troops to capture the Elisha. Overnight, the Syrian army surrounded the city where Elisha was staying; in the morning when Elisha’s servant saw the multitude arrayed against the city,

And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lᴏʀᴅ, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lᴏʀᴅ opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 1

Elisha saw reality because he was not distracted by the force he saw—rather Elisha saw what the Lᴏʀᴅ had already provided for deliverance from the apparent. The servant was made aware that God was in control. The servant was witness to the surrender of the Syrian army and God’s miraculous ‘winning’ the battle without a fight. Not surprisingly, the Syrians went back home ‘and did not come again on raids into the land of Israel.’

Maybe you won’t see heavenly hosts but if you take the time to be focused upon the Lᴏʀᴅ, you may recognize what the Lᴏʀᴅ is doing in your circumstances, what He has for ‘your open eyes’ today?
