Nevertheless

1 Kings 8:18-19

But the Lᴏʀᴅ said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’

Have you ever really wanted to do something big and good for God, something you just absolutely knew He wanted done and yet He wouldn’t allow you to do? That’s King David’s situation in today’s text as Solomon his son recounts how he came to be building the Temple to God. It wasn’t that David had asked something wrong but just that the Lᴏʀᴅ had other priorities for David. David’s life was full of noteworthy events, victories, conquests, consolidation of the monarchy under God but the Temple was not to be a David achievement.

What is your attitude when God says, “No” in your life, even when your intentions are so good in your sight? Is it possible for you to focus on what the Lᴏʀᴅ has for you and not what you see for yourself? Can you rest in God’s plan being more complete than yours?

Live this day as if God knows what He is doing even when you don’t understand His why or what. Nevertheless, trust God. Amen
