Much Better

1 Samuel 15:22-23

And Samuel said, “Has the Lᴏʀᴅ as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lᴏʀᴅ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the
Lᴏʀᴅ, he has also rejected you from being king.”

What do you give up to feel better about yourself? God says the outward is not as vital as the inward.

King Saul tried to appease the Lᴏʀᴅ by giving God some of what he had taken in conquest but God had already told him to give it all. Saul held back, reasoned that enough was enough, that he could decide what was appropriate to do. God said otherwise.

Has the Lᴏʀᴅ as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lᴏʀᴅ?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.”

The Lᴏʀᴅ’s priority was complete compliance but Saul disagreed. Saul did not see fulfilling the desires of God as relevant to what he wanted to do. Because Saul determined to do it his way, God judged Saul’s response as rebellion against God and God saw as sin Saul’s presumption that his will mattered more than God’s. As Saul rejected the Lᴏʀᴅ’s desires, the Lᴏʀᴅ rejected Saul’s right to be Israel’s king.

Do you live with an open ear to God and responsive to His desires or do you insist on doing life your way?
How will your life be seen by God? Whose way is ‘much better’?
