Are you content or do you need ‘just a little more’ to be satisfied? How much more is a little more?
Psalms 78 references back to the events of Numbers 11 when the rabble among the Israelites craved for the full stomachs ‘that cost us nothing’ in Egypt. Disregarding that God fulfilled all He promised, they wanted more and as Psalm 78 summarizes, ‘God let them have their cravings and the consequence of this insistence.’ Now, wouldn’t you believe this lesson enough to convince the error of their way? Nope, not enough. Thirty days of more abundance than they asked, of fulfilling their cravings, literally stuffing themselves with ‘good stuff’ and yet,
Imagine having your desires for more fulfilled and yet not content. Certainly, we would never fall into such a cycle of craving, being filled, craving more, then disbelieving God’s desire for our fulfillment. Certainly not in the western world with our provision of abundance like no other civilization has ever experienced. Not us.
Please, Lᴏʀᴅ, not us. Keep us mindful our ‘fullness’ is to be in You the Creator and not in the created. May we with Paul say, “I have learned to be content in whatever the circumstance…”
