Heartiness

1 Samuel 13:14

But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lᴏʀᴅ has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lᴏʀᴅ has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lᴏʀᴅ commanded you.”

How’s your heart? Not the blood pump but the part of you that contains your drive and desires.

When the Israelites demanded a king ‘like the other nations,’ they got just what God warned them they would get and it was not what the Lᴏʀᴅ wanted for them. The Lᴏʀᴅ had lead through prophets and priests but they wanted a man to lead and they got a tall, impressive man after their own desires. When King Saul set about to lead his way rather than God’s, God implemented a change order for leadership—

But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lᴏʀᴅ has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lᴏʀᴅ has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lᴏʀᴅ commanded you.”

The Israelites had taken someone outwardly impressive to be their leader but God intervenes for leadership by a man ‘after His own heart.’ Saul falls in the consequence of his own ways and dies while God raises up David who wasn’t anything special except he fit the criteria as ‘a man after God’s own heart,’ someone who would follow after the desires of God above all else.

Do you fit the criteria God seeks—being after God’s own heart? Where will your heart’s desire be found today?
