Then the Lᴏʀᴅ appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lᴏʀᴅ, who had appeared to him.
In yesterday’s devotional, God spoke to Abram but in today’s verse, the Lᴏʀᴅ appears to him. This was a landmark moment for Abram which is memorialized in “so he built an altar to the Lᴏʀᴅ.” Now this wasn’t just after the Lord had spoke to him in Haran; this is after he arrived in Canaan so months had passed, journeying had taken place, movement toward what God had promised had happened. Abram had acted upon what God had promised and God had shown Abram the place of promise.
Step One. Step Two. More steps. How do you respond to God—do you act upon what you now know or do you try to act beyond today? Are you living God’s life for you in the Today or are you trying to run ahead, maybe live up to someone else’s God promise? The life of following God, walking with God, requires a-step-at-a-time, endurance, continuance, persistence, perseverance, and yes, even obedience.
And it is a wise path that takes time to notice what God is accomplishing, taking the time to ‘build’ a few memorials to what God is accomplishing in your life. Thank God for the progress He is making in your journey walking with Him. Even today.
