Forgetfulness

Deuteronomy 32:18

“You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth.”

As Life races forward, do we suffer ‘source’ lag? We’ve heard of jet lag–moving across too many time zones and our inner clock confused–but what about traveling too fast and far from God.

Today’s passage points to the consequence of too much of God’s goodness, the ‘grew fat, kicked, became stout, sleek’ and then ‘forsook God’ and went after strange gods, sacrificed to the demon of their own ways.

Leaving God behind or going beyond God into Life apart from Him is ‘source’ lag:

“You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth.”

Are we so caught up in Life we live unmindful of our starting place, forgetting the God that gave us Life and can sustain it in His ways? Do we need to be mindful of the Lᴏʀᴅ, that He is our source of Life, or that without Him, we are utterly alone?

Remember—He desires to be on our minds, in our hearts, centered in His life for us today.
