Committed

Psalm 37:5-7

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

How does the Lᴏʀᴅ encourage us to live in Him to have the greatest sense of His participation in our lives? This passage is one of those divine suggestions of how life is intended to be for the friend of God.

God is not a god of casual relationships. Sorry but that is His truth. ‘Commit’ is the first step in relationship and it follows knowing the essentials about Him, believing His truth and having faith that He will be and do what He says. ‘Commit’ is a Hebrew verb rooted in the idea or practice of rolling into or together, becoming one, joining such that coming apart is unthinkable. Commitment includes trust that the Lᴏʀᴅ is as He says He is and that He joins with you in response to your commitment to Him.

There follows several results from committing to Him:
He will act on behalf of the relationship,
He will make your right relationship with Him evident as He shines out of your inner being,
He will be just on your behalf in all your ways in Him.

Then there is the peace that being ‘in’ Him will bring: as you are ‘stilled,’ you cease striving to establish your life, waiting for His time and means of accomplishing His purposes through you, giving away life’s turmoil as the Way is His to bring about because it is His Way and not of your doing.

How much better is living committed into the Lᴏʀᴅ than striving to carry out your own ways without the Lᴏʀᴅ. Be in His peace, committed in Him, today.
