Do you like to do life your way, to be a self-made individual, proudly holding all life’s possibilities? Would you prefer to live humble or proud, modest or arrogant? Do you have it all together enough to make best decisions?
Proverbs 16:25 writes, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” 1 Now that is not a very encouraging statement but back in the first chapter of Proverbs, there is an even more disturbing warning to those who have determined to minimize God to be just a resource used on their ‘want-to’. God speaking,
God is not about a casual relationship, a resource to be used on our whims and when we decide to let Him be helpful. His is willing but only in relationship. When we choose not to respect Him, turn from His revelation of Himself or even the precepts of what He says is best for us, He promises to be willing to let us have our way. ‘Eating the fruit’ cultivated in our ways and ‘getting the fill’ of our own results is what some call the permissive will of God; it isn’t God’s will at all but He will permit you to ‘have it your way’ if you insist.
Today is the best day to choose to live with respect for God—all His counsel and accepting His correction—that you may walk in harmony with Him and in His best for your life. Amen
